With less than three weeks until the September 21st governorship election, Emmanuel Agbaje, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former lawmaker who represented Akoko-Edo II from 2015 to 2023, has officially parted ways with the party.
In a resignation letter dated September 2nd, 2024, addressed to the Ward 10 chairman in Akoko-Edo local government area, Agbaje expressed frustration over what he described as alienation and alleged sidelining within the party, particularly in his Ward.
“This decision has not been taken lightly, but after careful consideration and consultation with my support base and leaders. I believe it is the best course of action for me at this time,” Agbaje stated in the letter.
He further explained his reasons, adding, “Since democracy provides for choices, I am entitled to review my involvement and seek alignment that recognizes loyalty, dedication, and sacrifices. I can no longer accept the deliberate alienation and the sidelining of core Party faithful and leaders particularly from our Ward.”

Agbaje acknowledged the difficulty of his decision as a founding member of the APC, noting the relationships built over the years. “My assurances are that our friendship and relationships remain protected and insulated. Life outside politics is larger,” he added.
In conclusion, Agbaje expressed gratitude for the support and leadership he received during his time in the APC, emphasizing that his commitment to the ideals of the party and the community remains intact despite his departure.
It’s worth noting that Agbaje was the sole APC lawmaker in the State House of Assembly who did not join Governor Godwin Obaseki’s defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2020 governorship election.
