Nanfwang Dachi Gunat, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a warning to lawmakers nationwide regarding the potential repercussions of passing a vote of confidence for the party’s beleaguered National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Gunat, who previously served on the Support Groups Coordination for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, stressed that his warning applies to both current and former lawmakers, including those in state assemblies, the House of Representatives, and the Senate.

He emphasized that endorsing Ganduje would betray the North Central region’s aspirations to reclaim the chairmanship, particularly following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu from the same region.

In an interview with reporters in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, Gunat revealed circulating rumors that Ganduje intends to rally support from former and current legislators nationwide to maintain the chairmanship position in the North West, where he hails from, and seek their endorsement for himself.

According to Gunat, the party constitutionally allocated the chairmanship to the North Central, a region that has significantly contributed to the party’s progress. He accused Ganduje of attempting to manipulate this arrangement.

Gunat firmly stated that the North Central region will not yield this position to any other region within the party.

He contested the credit often attributed to Ganduje for the APC’s victories in the Edo and Ondo gubernatorial elections, asserting that voters supported the party due to their faith in it rather than Ganduje, who failed to secure his home state of Kano for the APC.

The APC chieftain urged President Bola Tinubu and party leaders to convene a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting promptly to address the chairmanship issue, warning that unresolved tensions could fracture the party.

Gunat highlighted that organizing this meeting is crucial for the party’s cohesion and success in the upcoming 2027 elections, as the North Central region feels increasingly marginalized.

As a grassroots politician and mobilizer with experience on the APC’s presidential campaign council, he expressed concern about the rising discontent among the North Central populace and stressed the need for swift action to prevent further escalation that could hinder the party’s progress and fortunes.
