The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence that the proposed alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 will ultimately fail.
In a recent interview, Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, asserted that both Atiku and Obi have learned valuable lessons from the previous general elections and are now prepared to join forces to defeat the APC’s perceived incompetent governance.
Ibe noted that the combined support of Atiku and Obi, which he estimated at around 12 million votes, should have been sufficient to counter President Tinubu’s administration and alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians.
However, in another interview, APC’s National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, ridiculed the notion of the two opposition leaders successfully stopping Tinubu’s re-election, labeling it as a “dream gone wrong.”
Ibrahim pointed out that an opposition party embroiled in internal strife lacks the capacity to pose a real threat to the ruling party.
“It’s a dream gone wrong,” he remarked. “Globally, you cannot simply sum up the total votes from an election and expect that to overturn the winner’s votes. A savvy winner uses that knowledge to exploit divisions within the opposition, as each candidate aims to secure victory for themselves.”
