The Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) has officially announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all local government elections conducted across the state on Saturday.
Jossey Eze, the Chairman of EBSIEC, revealed the results on Sunday, confirming that the APC clinched all 13 chairmanship positions along with 171 councillor seats in the various wards.
During the elections, three political parties were in contention: the APC, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and the Labour Party (LP). EBSIEC ratified and accepted the results for both the chairmanship and councillorship positions as declared by the returning officers from each local council.
Eze expressed his contentment with the peaceful nature of the elections, praising the role of security forces, electoral personnel, and all stakeholders involved in facilitating a smooth electoral process.
“The exercise was conducted without any major incidents. We extend our gratitude to the security agencies and everyone who contributed to this successful event,” he stated.
Voter turnout was notable, with citizens actively engaging in the electoral process across all 13 local government areas in the state. Eze particularly acknowledged the state government’s non-interference in the electoral proceedings, attributing this to the credibility and fairness of the elections.
“The results have been declared, but the victory belongs to all who participated in the electoral process. It is essential for the winners to be inclusive and ensure that everyone plays a role in delivering the benefits of democracy to the grassroots, which is the essence of local governance,” he added.
Eze summarized the outcomes as reported by returning officers from various wards and local government areas, noting key winners such as Mr. Ebere Nwogba for Abakaliki, Mr. Timothy Agha for Afikpo, Mr. Chima Ekumamkama for Edda, Mr. Chinedu Bernard for Ebonyi, Moses Nome for Ezza, Mr. Sunday Nwankwor for Ikwo, and Mr. Emmanuel Ajah for Ivo, among others.
