Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the September 2024 gubernatorial election in Edo State, has criticized incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki for failing to maintain public infrastructure across 18 local government areas.

In a statement to journalists in Calabar, Okpebholo argued that if Obaseki had prioritized infrastructure, Edo State would resemble other urbanized communities in Nigeria. He promised that, if elected, his administration would focus on improving health, education, and road infrastructure, drawing inspiration from the infrastructural advancements made during Adams Oshiomhole’s tenure as governor.

“We’ll declare an emergency on roads, schools, and health infrastructure in the 18 LGAs of the state,” Okpebholo announced. “We will be taking a holistic approach to correct the decayed roads, schools, and health infrastructure that have been left unattended by the Godwin Obaseki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”

He further stated, “If the Obaseki-led administration had built upon what the government of Adams Oshiomhole did, Edo would have been competing with states like Lagos in terms of development. Our mission is to, from day one, hit the ground running and make Edo a better place, a place we can actually call our own, a place that everybody will be happy to see.”

Okpebholo also emphasized his commitment to running an inclusive government, should he be elected in the September 21 election. He highlighted the importance of a bottom-up approach in managing the state’s affairs, ensuring that the needs and voices of the people are heard and addressed.
