The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State is preparing to kick off its campaign for the local government elections scheduled for October 5, 2024.
During an announcement made in Uyo on Tuesday, Senator Ita Enang, the Chairman of the APC Local Government Campaign and Planning Committee in the state, revealed that the campaign launch will take place on September 18 at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium.
Enang expressed his strong belief in the APC’s prospects for success in the upcoming elections, highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s significant move toward local government autonomy across the nation.
He also voiced confidence that Governor Pastor Umo Eno would uphold his commitment to ensuring a fair electoral environment for all parties, although he raised concerns about the impartiality of the AKISIEC chairman, Ikoiwak, citing past actions.
“Akwa Ibom is fundamentally an APC stronghold, although it is currently led by the PDP,” Enang stated, asserting that the party boasts qualified candidates eager not only to secure victories but also to deliver tangible benefits to the community, such as road construction, agricultural development, and effective management of local education — services he believes the PDP council members have neglected.
He proclaimed, “We will officially launch our local government election campaign for the All Progressives Congress at the Ikot Ekpene township stadium on September 18.
“We are confident that with the President’s bold initiative to ensure local government autonomy from state governments, we are prepared to compete and win in all 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State.
“We are the majority here. Akwa Ibom is an APC state, albeit currently under the control of a PDP government. While we acknowledge their governance, we are determined to showcase our strength and capabilities in the upcoming local government elections.
“I’m sure many residents are dissatisfied with the performance of local governments in Akwa Ibom. Local authorities have the legal authority to construct roads, manage culverts, oversee local education, enhance agricultural production, and address land management issues. Unfortunately, these responsibilities have not been fulfilled in Akwa Ibom State.”
