The All Progressives Congress (APC) has referred to former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar as “Africa’s most infamous presidential election loser” following his claims that he was rigged into victory during the 2023 general elections.

In a statement, Barrister Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the ruling party, dismissed Atiku’s assertion made on his X account, calling it a baseless claim.

The APC accused the former Vice President of being part of the government that established a corrupt petrol subsidy system, which they argue has severely damaged Nigeria’s economy. They highlighted that this system laid the groundwork for the pervasive corruption and inefficiency that have plagued the nation’s power sector over the years.

The statement emphasized that Atiku’s “desire to become president stems from his intent to continue disrupting Nigeria’s economic landscape, just as he did during his vice presidency.” They asserted that Nigerians would not trust a leader who prioritizes personal gain and the interests of his associates over the welfare of the nation.

Addressing the internal issues within the PDP, the APC urged Atiku to restore harmony within his party before attempting to address Nigeria’s economic issues.

The statement continued, “With his recent release of ‘What I Would Do Differently,’ it is evident that Atiku has nothing new to offer Nigerians—only outdated and ineffective economic ideas that are irrelevant to the pressing economic challenges we face today.”

They noted that Atiku had opportunities during his tenure as Vice President to implement any economic strategies, but he fell short, both during his time in office and throughout the PDP’s 16 years of governance. The APC criticized Atiku’s belief in his ability to fix Nigeria while failing to address the dysfunction within his own party.

Finally, the APC encouraged Nigerians to continue their support for the administration of President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing their commitment to revitalizing the economy for the benefit of all citizens.
