Hon Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent figure in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has called for urgent intervention from President Ahmed Bola Tinubu regarding the ongoing fuel scarcity that is affecting millions of Nigerians.

During a press briefing on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye expressed deep concern over the hardships faced by citizens due to the recurring fuel shortages, which he insists require the president’s immediate attention.

Many Nigerians had hoped that the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government would lead to a resolution of the scarcity issues. However, Oyintiloye pointed out that instead of improvement, the situation has worsened, leaving citizens grappling with exorbitant fuel prices and significant difficulties in accessing petrol.

He urged President Tinubu to closely examine the operations of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to identify the root causes of this persistent fuel crisis.

As a member of the now-defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council, Oyintiloye emphasized that while Nigerians are striving to cope with economic challenges, the lack of sufficient fuel supply exacerbates the already strained situation.

“In recent months, it has become increasingly difficult for Nigerians to procure petroleum products from filling stations nationwide,” he stated.

“I appeal to the president to intervene and rescue Nigerians who are enduring severe hardships as a result of this fuel scarcity.

“This scarcity has sadly become an everyday reality for many Nigerians, which should not be the case.

“Recently, numerous citizens have taken to sleeping at filling stations in hopes of securing fuel for their vehicles and businesses.

“While some stations are completely out of stock, those that do have fuel are charging exorbitant prices.

“Nigerians are enduring considerable suffering, which is why it is crucial for the president to step in and alleviate the hardships faced by the populace,” he remarked.

Additionally, Oyintiloye, a former legislator, called on the president to make a concerted effort to revitalize the country’s refineries.

He asserted that if the four Nigerian refineries could be restored to full functionality, the issue of fuel scarcity would be a distant memory.

“The weight of this burden on the shoulders of the common people is becoming increasingly intolerable, underscoring the urgent need for presidential intervention,” he concluded.
