Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced that his party is poised to seize control of Rivers State’s leadership shortly.

During an event welcoming Dawari Ibietela George, the 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), who recently defected to the APC, Ganduje stated that the party’s chapter in Rivers State will undergo a significant transformation to solidify its presence in the region.

He emphasized the APC’s dedication to accommodating a variety of interests while maintaining equity among its members.

Describing George as a “big fish” in the political arena, Ganduje praised his strategic insight, expressing optimism that George’s involvement would enhance the party’s footprint in the state. “Rivers State will be entirely under APC control,” he asserted, highlighting the high expectations he has for George’s reintegration into the party.

Ganduje extended a warm welcome to George, promising that a strong organizational framework would be established to support him and other returning members. “You are now equal members alongside all others in the party. We are determined to expand democracy throughout the nation,” Ganduje remarked.

This assertion from Ganduje comes amidst ongoing political tensions between Governor Sim Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

While there are allegations suggesting that Wike may be collaborating with the former state chairman of the APC, Tony Okocha, Wike has publicly refuted these claims. Nevertheless, Okocha has recently indicated that Fubara will be targeted for negative campaigning as the 2027 gubernatorial elections approach.
