The All Progressives Congress (APC) has indicated that the National Assembly might deliberate on Senator Ali Ndume’s possible reinstatement as Chief Whip once its current recess concludes. The Senate and House of Representatives have entered their annual break and will not reconvene until September 17.

Reports suggest that Ndume was removed from his Chief Whip role amid backlash against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, with his position subsequently filled by fellow senator Tahir Monguno.

However, after a few weeks, Ndume made a visit to the National Working Committee of the ruling APC in Abuja, where he expressed remorse for the situation.

In a response to Ndume’s apology, the APC national chairman characterized the incident as an internal matter and confirmed that Ndume had been forgiven. He indicated that the party would reach out to the Senate to advocate for Ndume’s reinstatement.

In an interview regarding the situation, Nze Chidi Duru, the APC’s National Deputy Organising Secretary, noted that the party has been in communication with the Senate on the issue.

Duru elaborated that the final decision rests with the senators, as the matter is now beyond the party’s control. He stated, “It’s now up to the senators to make what they believe is the right choice. The ball is no longer in our court. We have already engaged with the Senate leadership.”
