A coalition of stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has raised concerns about the party’s deteriorating condition, declaring that it is on the verge of collapse.
The Tinubu/Shettima Foundation convened its general meeting in Yola, the state capital, on Saturday, where members voiced their frustrations over the prevailing disunity within the party. They criticized the leadership for showing little appreciation for dedicated party members.
Participants from all 21 local government areas in Adamawa attended the meeting and expressed alarm over the factionalism that threatens the party’s cohesion. They emphasized the urgent need for intervention to prevent the party from fracturing completely.
According to reports, the party’s internal discord was a contributing factor to the APC’s loss of the governorship in the state during the 2019 elections, despite having held the position since 2015.
In a press interview following the meeting, Alhaji Yahaya Hammanjulde, the chairman of the Tinubu/Shettima Foundation, warned that many members might defect to other parties if the ongoing issues within the APC are not urgently addressed.
He lamented the prevalence of anti-party activities, even among the party’s leadership, and noted that loyal members are often treated with contempt.
“This party is on the brink of disaster. We find ourselves in a sinking vessel, and without the immediate support of stakeholders, we risk going under very soon,” Hammanjulde stated.
