In a recent interview, Ijeomah Arodiogbu, the National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South East zone, revealed the party’s ambitious plan to expand its influence in the region.

Arodiogbu stated that the ruling party is determined to make Anambra State one of its strongholds in the upcoming 2025 election, with plans to subsequently target Enugu and Abia states.

Reflecting on the mistakes that cost the APC in the previous 2023 general election, Arodiogbu acknowledged the weaknesses of the party and assured that they have been duly addressed. He exuded confidence in the party’s ability to capture the South East region, emphasizing that significant progress has already been made under his leadership.

Arodiogbu expressed his intention to bring the remaining All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)-led state of Anambra, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-controlled state of Enugu, and the Labour Party (LP)-governed state of Abia into the APC fold. He highlighted ongoing mobilization efforts aimed at attracting more Ndigbo (Igbo people) to join the ruling party, citing recent defections of prominent South East stakeholders as evidence of the party’s appeal.

With a determined focus on rectifying the mistakes of the past, Arodiogbu reassured the public that the APC is fully committed to winning the upcoming Anambra gubernatorial election, viewing it as a stepping stone to further victories in Abia and Enugu. He expressed optimism in the party’s prospects, attributing them to the positive developments and achievements witnessed under his stewardship.

The APC’s expansion strategy in the South East zone has gained momentum, with notable figures like former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim defecting from the main opposition PDP to join the ruling party.

Such high-profile defections have bolstered the APC’s progressive agenda and contributed to its growing popularity in the region.

As the APC sets its sights on Anambra, Enugu, and Abia, it remains to be seen how successful their ambitious plan will be in reshaping the political landscape of the South East.
