Muhammad Bello Bakyasuwa, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, has shed light on the deep-rooted reasons behind the party’s disunity. He attributes this disarray to a severe lack of competent leadership, which has resulted in instability and the emergence of various factions within the state.

In a statement released in Gusau on Saturday, Hon. Bakyasuwa elaborated on why members of the APC, particularly within Senator Kabiru Garba Mafara’s faction, lack confidence in the leadership of the two former governors of the state, Bello Matawalle and Sen. Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari.

Bakyasuwa, who previously served as the Director of Security Affairs and immediate commandant of the Zamfara Anti-Thuggery Agency under Gov. Bello Matawalle’s administration, highlighted selfishness as a major factor contributing to the party’s failure in the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.

He expressed disappointment in the lack of positive impact brought about by Matawalle’s appointment as Minister of State for Defence, particularly in addressing the persisting security challenges in the state.

Furthermore, he criticized Yari, a prominent figure in the Senate, for not adequately prioritizing the interests of Zamfara State and instead focusing on his own political agenda.

Bakyasuwa lambasted the ineffective performance of the two APC leaders in the federal government, stating that they have failed to meet the expectations of the people in addressing the state’s security challenges. He expressed his disillusionment, claiming that Zamfara has no valid representation in the Tinubu-led APC administration.

According to Bakyasuwa, Zamfara was one of the Northern Nigerian states that heavily voted for President Bola Ahmad Tinubu in the 2023 elections, largely due to the efforts of Sen. Kabiru Marafa, the Presidential Campaign Coordinator.

However, he lamented that some selfish and incompetent politicians have misused the opportunity to represent the state in the Federal Government.

Bakyasuwa criticized the APC leadership in the state, under Tukur Umar Danfulani, for lacking the capacity to effectively manage the party and ensure future electoral victories.

He even questioned the legitimacy of Danfulani’s membership in the party, as he had been dismissed by the Galadima APC Ward Executives in Gusau Local Government Area. Bakyasuwa expressed his perplexity at how a dismissed party member could continue to hold himself as the party chairman in the state.

In conclusion, he expressed his belief that only Sen. Marafa’s leadership group within the APC has the capability to bring peace, unity, and stability to the party, ultimately leading them to victory in the 2027 general elections.
