The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all chairmanship and councillorship positions in Saturday’s local government elections across Benue State.
Announcing the results on Sunday at the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) headquarters in Makurdi, BSIEC Chairman Richard Tombowua confirmed that the APC secured all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship seats contested.
“The election held yesterday across the state proceeded smoothly without any hitches. It was free and fair, and all results have been submitted by the returning officers,” Tombowua stated.
According to the commission’s chairman, five out of the eight political parties that submitted candidates participated in the election. These include the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, Social Democratic Party, and All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Reacting to the outcome, Ibrahim Idoko, the state chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council and a representative of the Labour Party, praised the commission for organizing a smooth election. He also acknowledged the state governor, Hyacinth Alia, for providing a level playing field for all parties.
Idoko mentioned that his party would review the election results and issue a formal statement at a later time.
