Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has leveled allegations against Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, claiming that Obi has incited online harassment and death threats directed at him and his family.
Morka’s remarks came as a response to Obi’s assertions made on his verified X account, where he stated that threats against his life, family, and associates had escalated following his New Year message.
Obi accused Morka of stating that he had “crossed the line” and warning of potential “consequences” during an interview. In a rebuttal issued on January 7, Morka dismissed these claims as “malicious lies” and an act of “attention-seeking emotional blackmail.”
He emphasized that his comments were misrepresented and did not amount to any threats against Obi or his loved ones. “At no point did I suggest any threat directed at Mr. Obi or anyone else. The full transcript of my remarks clearly indicates that I was focused solely on critiquing his political statements and unfounded economic claims,” Morka asserted.
During the interview, Morka criticized Obi’s remarks, labeling them as “irrational” and “deliberately misleading,” particularly in regard to the Tinubu administration. He defended his statement that Obi had “crossed the line” as a reaction to what he described as inflammatory language, including Obi’s characterization of the administration as employing “voodoo economics.”
Morka further claimed that Obi’s public statements had incited his online followers, whom he referred to as a “restless mob,” to issue threats and harass him and his family. “By falsely suggesting that I threatened his life, Mr. Obi has stirred his online supporters to make death threats against both me and my family, which is utterly unacceptable and reprehensible,” Morka declared.
He criticized Obi for not denouncing the behavior of his supporters, accusing them of bullying and intimidating those who oppose the Labour Party’s views. “Mr. Obi has strayed far from the truth in his assessments. His constant inconsistencies and refusal to acknowledge any progress raise doubts about his commitment to principled leadership,” Morka stated.
Morka has urged Obi to retract his allegations and issue a public clarification. He warned that he is prepared to take legal action to safeguard his reputation if the claims are not retracted. “Obi’s actions threaten democratic principles and the trust of the Nigerian populace. He must act responsibly and stop spreading falsehoods in his pursuit of political relevance,” Morka concluded.
