The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has issued a response to a viral video that allegedly depicts Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, physically confronting a Bolt driver.

Ikwechegh, who represents the Aba North and South federal constituency in Abia State, has been at the center of controversy following the circulation of clips showing him verbally attacking the driver and making threatening remarks, including a chilling assertion to “make him disappear.”

The incident took place on October 27 in Abuja’s Maitama area. Following the event, the Nigeria Police Force Complaint Response Unit (NPF-CRU) announced that it would be investigating the matter. Force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed that the driver, identified as Stephen Abuwatseya, reported the incident at the Maitama divisional headquarters.

In a statement released on Monday, Ejimofor Opara, the national publicity secretary of APGA, condemned the alleged assault by Ikwechegh, describing the behavior as “completely unacceptable” and contradictory to the party’s values.

“The attention of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has been drawn to a viral video allegedly showing a citizen being assaulted by Honorable Alex Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North and South Federal Constituency,” the statement declared.

“As a political party committed to human rights, we unequivocally denounce the actions of our member and Federal Parliamentarian, Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh. Our party is built on principles that uphold the dignity of every individual, regardless of their background. The conduct displayed in the recent video is in direct opposition to the values we stand for.”

In accordance with APGA’s constitution, Opara stated that the party’s leadership will establish a disciplinary committee to investigate the incident, and if Ikwechegh is found culpable, appropriate disciplinary measures will be enforced.

He emphasized that all party members and elected officials are expected to maintain high standards of decorum, civility, and integrity.

Opara further made clear that APGA will not tolerate behavior that contradicts its founding principles and that mutual accountability among members is vital.
