Sylvester Ezeokenwa, a factional Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has expressed strong confidence that the internal crisis currently affecting the party will not hinder the re-election of Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo.

Speaking in an interview on Friday, Ezeokenwa drew parallels between the ongoing crisis and similar issues that the party had faced during the elections of previous governors Willie Obiano and Peter Obi, which ultimately did not prevent their victories.

“We had this crisis in 2009, it did not stop the re-election of Governor Peter Obi; we had this crisis in 2013, it did not stop the re-election of Governor Willie Obiano; we had this issue in 2017, it did not stop the re-election of Governor Willie Obiano.

In 2021, despite the same issue, it didn’t stop the election of Professor Charles Soludo,” Ezeokenwa said.

He further noted that such internal disputes tend to resurface every four years as elections approach, but emphasized that the people of Anambra State have a deep trust in APGA and the positive impact the party has had on the state.

Ezeokenwa was elected as APGA chairman in May 2023 during a convention in Awka, Anambra State. However, the party has since faced leadership disputes, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in July recognizing Edozie Njoku as the national chairman of APGA based on a court ruling. Njoku claims he was elected at a convention in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

Despite the internal conflict, Ezeokenwa remains optimistic about the party’s chances, asserting that APGA’s legacy and achievements will resonate with the electorate, securing Soludo’s re-election.
