The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has formally rejected the recently announced results of the local government chairmanship and councillorship elections, declaring its intention to seek legal recourse.
This stance was made clear by APGA State Chairman Onuoha Egbe Benon during a press conference.
Benon asserted that the results released by the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) do not accurately reflect the events that transpired during the elections, claiming that there is substantial evidence to support APGA’s victory.
He explained that the decision to contest the results was made after thorough analysis and feedback from various sources, emphasizing that the party believes the elections were neither free nor fair as claimed by the electoral authority.
“We are pursuing legal action, which is the appropriate course of action following elections. That is our party’s official position,” Benon stated.
“We intend to go to court to reclaim our mandate because we have undeniable proof of winning both the LGA Chairmanship and Councillorship positions,” he added.
Additionally, he alleged that results were announced prematurely while collations were still ongoing, claiming that many votes for APGA candidates were significantly under-reported.
