The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has declared its intention to suspend Charles Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State.
This announcement was made by the party’s National Chairman, Edozie Njoku, during a press briefing outside the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday.
Njoku accused Soludo of obstructing efforts by the Supreme Court-sanctioned NWC to restore harmony within the party and alleged that the governor has been engaging in activities detrimental to the party’s interests.
He indicated that by September 26, 2024, the NWC would reveal the identities of other party members facing suspension for similar anti-party conduct, including Governor Soludo.
Further elaborating, he mentioned that the party currently lacks a designated candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial election, expressing skepticism about Soludo’s chances of succeeding in the party’s primaries.
Njoku invited any interested candidates for the gubernatorial position in Anambra State to step forward and assured them that the selection process would be straightforward.
He expressed his concerns, stating, “Recently, we approached the Court of Appeal to seek recognition from INEC, despite a Supreme Court ruling that deemed my removal as national chairman unjustifiable. Attempts were made to undermine this, including filing lawsuits without my knowledge.”
He continued, “The entire NWC is present, and we are considering the suspension of certain individuals from the party. I have consistently advocated for peace, as it serves our interests to avoid suspensions of elected officials, including a governor or assembly members.”
Njoku emphasized that no individual, including the Anambra governor, is above the party, and indicated that some are misinterpreting his desire for peace as weakness. “APGA is a political party that is here to endure, and we have reached a consensus on suspending several members, including the governor if necessary. However, we will not take such actions lightly,” he concluded.
