Two female students from the Tai Solarin University of Education in Ogun State, Ijebu Ode, were assaulted by armed robbers. These first-year students faced a horrifying ordeal on a Monday night.
The incident took place around 12:30 am when the robbers broke into the students’ residences. Armed with guns, they demanded the students’ phones and other valuables. After robbing them, the attackers led the students to an unfinished building nearby, where they subjected them to sexual assault.
An insider at the university revealed the traumatic details, explaining how the robbers’ threats and weapons left the students with no choice but to comply. The robbers then used this opportunity to violate the students in the abandoned structure.
Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson for the state, confirmed the incident from Abeokuta, the state capital. She stated, “The incident was reported to the Igbeba Police Division at around 10 am. Our officers swiftly launched a search operation in the area to locate the suspects. We are working diligently to bring all those responsible to justice.”
Odutola also reassured the public that the survivors are receiving medical attention at the university clinic, emphasizing the police’s commitment to supporting the victims and ensuring their safety. This heinous crime has sent shockwaves through the university community and beyond, prompting calls for increased security measures to protect students from such violent acts.
