Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, has responded sharply to former governor Adams Oshiomhole, who recently dismissed Ighodalo’s electability and familiarity with the local populace in light of the upcoming governorship election on September 12.

In an interview with, Ighodalo took the opportunity to rebut Oshiomhole’s criticism, pointing out that while Oshiomhole may have a background as a tailor, he himself has served as a board chairman, which he believes qualifies him for the gubernatorial role.

During the interview, the host referenced Oshiomhole’s remarks, stating, “The former governor of Edo State, someone you worked with on his economic team, has made claims about your electability and understanding of the people. How do you respond?”

Ighodalo replied, “Oshiomhole’s comments are quite misguided. If he managed to govern for eight years with little experience, surely I, with my extensive background as a board chairman and having created jobs for ten thousand people, can do even better.”

He continued, “I respect the Comrade because he is older than me; he even married someone from my village, which earns him my respect as well. But I know he didn’t speak the truth with his remarks. I choose to respect his age.”

Ighodalo also pointed out that Oshiomhole’s statements were not well thought out, suggesting that he often speaks before fully considering his words.

He emphasized, “If I were incapable, I wouldn’t have been a part of Oshiomhole’s economic team for eight successful years, providing valuable insights. Let me ask you this: If I lacked the skills, how could I have been on his economic team for so long?”

He also highlighted the difference in their backgrounds, stating, “While Oshiomhole started as a tailor, and I don’t mean to belittle that, I have led companies and held substantial leadership roles. How can he say I’m not electable?”

Ighodalo further asserted that his extensive international experience gives him the necessary perspective to tackle Edo State’s issues effectively.

He concluded by stating that the decision regarding his electability should lie with the people of Edo State, not Oshiomhole. “It’s the people of Edo who will decide if I’m electable, not him. I am here with my community, and unlike Oshiomhole, I’ve traveled the world extensively.”
