Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the results of the local government elections in Rivers State signify a clear rejection of political oppression and the influence of godfathers within the region.

In a statement released yesterday, Atiku asserted that the conclusion of the local government polls has opened the door for the establishment of democratic governance in the state.

“With the local government elections in Rivers now concluded, the era of political intimidation and judicial manipulation has come to an end, allowing for a renewed focus on governance,” he stated.

“From the vibrant center of Port Harcourt to the serene shores of Onne, the citizens have spoken decisively, demonstrating that nothing can surpass the essence of democracy.”

He added, “As foretold, it is now evident that the people of Rivers are discerning and steadfast, resolutely rejecting any form of political oppression, coercion, or the schemes of self-serving elites.”

Atiku extended his congratulations to the newly elected local government officials, urging them to prioritize the welfare of the populace and to distance themselves from tyranny and misguided ambitions in their political pursuits.

“I also commend the determined citizens of Rivers State for their resilience in the face of challenges, ensuring that the election was conducted peacefully and with integrity,” he remarked.

Furthermore, Atiku praised Governor Sim Fubara for his steadfast dedication to the people’s interests, noting his efforts to uphold the integrity of the local government elections despite facing significant challenges.
