Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential hopeful from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), issued a stern warning on Saturday against any attempts to manipulate the upcoming governorship election in Edo State.
During the grand finale of the PDP’s campaign rally in the Ekemwan region of Edo, Atiku emphasized that the state should not be compared to Lagos, where he alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has a history of election rigging.
He urged residents to safeguard their votes to prevent any electoral fraud.
“Remember what they said four years ago; they threatened us. They claimed they wouldn’t allow us to win in Edo State.
“But we showed them that ‘Edo is not Lagos,’ didn’t we?
“This time around, we will again demonstrate that ‘Edo is not Lagos.’ They cannot steal your votes here, so it is crucial to protect, defend, and escort your ballots.
“Ensure that your votes are counted and that the results are publicly declared. If you do this, no external force can alter your votes.
“You are destined to win next week, agree? ‘Edo is not Lagos,’” Atiku declared.
The people of Edo State are set to cast their votes next Saturday to elect their new governor.
The leading candidates in this governorship race are Asue Ighodalo representing the PDP, Monday Okpebholo from the APC, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP).
