In light of a surge in violence that has swept through various regions of Nigeria, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has voiced serious concerns regarding the Federal Government’s seeming indifference to the mounting crises affecting the country.
Taking to X, Atiku expressed his sorrow over the recent tragic events in Yobe, where countless lives were lost, alongside the devastation wreaked upon villages in Katsina, Sokoto, and other areas in the North-West and North-Central zones.
He criticized the government for focusing on insignificant issues while the nation is engulfed in serious unrest.
Atiku highlighted that the turmoil is not confined to the North, as Boko Haram’s activities and political strife continue to threaten peace in the South as well.
“While confronting these serious challenges, the Federal Government seems more interested in suppressing dissent, even resorting to extreme actions such as imposing death penalties on peaceful protesters,” he remarked.
He emphasized that the tragedy in Yobe starkly illustrates the shortcomings of the existing security framework, which urgently requires comprehensive reform.
Atiku called upon the Tinubu administration to exhibit a stronger dedication to protecting lives and property throughout Nigeria, stressing the immediate necessity for effective security strategies to tackle the ongoing turmoil.
“My thoughts are with the victims of these dreadful attacks, and I earnestly urge the Tinubu administration to significantly enhance its commitment to ensuring safety and security across the nation,” he concluded.
