Former Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyang has spoken out since his house was attacked back in 2022 while playing for Spanish club Barcelona.
Aubamenyang said, “My eldest son came running to me and said: ‘Dad, there are some men in the house.’ I replied: ‘Just hide.’
“They came from outside, where my wife was smoking with my cousin and his friend.
“They took my cousin’s friend and then entered the house. My wife was screaming. One of them was holding a firearm.
“I grabbed a big bottle and went upstairs, at the same time, my sister-in-law was there with our little boy, I also told her: Just go, try to hide somewhere.
“Then I saw the men. There were four or five of them. One of them was holding a gun and he said to me: ‘Get down.’ I said: ‘No, no, no. Tell me what you want.’ We talked, then he said to me: ‘Sit down.’ I said: ‘No.’ Then he started hitting me.
“I wanted to fight, but someone came down and grabbed my children and my sister-in-law. At that moment, I couldn’t do anything. If I made a mistake, something bad could happen to them.
“We walked around the house, and I gave them whatever they wanted so that we would be okay.
“If I was alone, it wouldn’t be a problem. I could handle it, my parents prepared me for everything in life.
“But when you have a wife and children, it’s different.
“After that, my children told me: ‘Dad, we don’t want to go to school, we’re afraid something might happen there.’ For a year, my little boy would tell me: ‘I can’t sleep alone.’ It was a constant nightmare in our minds.”
“That’s why when Aubameyang decided to go to Saudi Arabia, one of the main factors was safety.” As quoted by the Athletic.
