Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr is making her Nollywood debut, joining the ranks of pop stars who are venturing into the Nigerian movie industry. The 22-year-old Grammy-nominated artist will appear in Prime Video’s original romantic comedy Christmas in Lagos, directed by Jadesola Osiberu.
The movie, which was filmed in Lagos, stars Teniola A. Aladese, Shalom C. Obiago, Rayxia Ojo, Shaffy Bello, and Adekunle Gold alongside Ayra Starr.
The plot centers around Fiyin (played by Aladese), who, after a heartbreak, begins to believe that her best friend, Elo (Obiago), is actually the love of her life.
Director Jadesola Osiberu expressed her admiration for Ayra Starr, saying, “For me, Ayra Starr represents what it means to be young and female and daring and brave and fearless – just being yourself. She was on the list from day one,” Osiberu told Variety.

The film will also feature cameos from other musicians like Wurld and Liya, with a soundtrack that includes songs from legendary artist Sunny Ade, as well as Afrobeats stars Flavour and D’banj.
