Barcelona could be willing to offer Manchester United out-of-favour forward Vitor Roque in exchange for Mason Greenwood.
Greenwood’s future remains uncertain as he heads towards the end of his loan season with Getafe. Manchester United have agreed to take up an option to extend his contract until 2026 which gives the Red Devils options, according to HITC. One such scenario could see Barcelona offer youngster Vitor Roque in exchange for Greenwood, with the Brazilian struggling for minutes in Catalonia. However, Manchester United would prefer a straight sale.
Barcelona president Joan Laporte asked Getafe about Greenwood after seeing the forward score eight times and pick up six assists in La Liga. The club’s summer transfer business maybe restricted due to their ongoing financial difficulties, but Greenwood could be available cheap and a summer exit for Vitor Roque does appear likely. The Brazilian’s agent Andre Cury has hit out at Xavi and Barca for his lack of game time following his arrival in January from Athletico Paranaense. Vitor Roque has made just two La Liga starts for Barca, and Cury has claimed he will seek a permanent transfer if Xavi’s side ask him to go out on loan.
Getafe chief Angel Torres spoke about Greenwod’s future recently in an interview with Radio Marca. He said: “If it was up to the lad, his parents and the club, I think he would continue for another year.
“Regarding Manchester United, the news that we have from last week, where the sporting director went to England to see some games and was with them, is that, if a good offer comes along, they would want to sell because he is not going to go back there.
“We’ll have to wait until the end of June. The people and the coach are very happy with him. I think he will remain with us for another season, or at least until January. He is a good footballer.”
Greenwood will aim to add to his goal tally in Getafe’s final fixtures of the season against Cadiz, Atletico, Alaves and Real Mallorca. A decision will then need to be made on his future ahead of the new campaign.
