The Bauchi State Ministry of Education has successfully conducted the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) for over 56,000 candidates.

During a press briefing on Friday following an inspection of various examination centers, Labaran Ibrahim Labaran, Deputy Director 1 of Examinations at the Ministry, praised this year’s examination process. He described it as a major success with fewer issues compared to previous years.

“I am thoroughly impressed with the smooth execution of this year’s exams,” Labaran stated. “There were minimal problems, and everything proceeded as planned.”

He detailed that the examinations were divided into two parts: Basic Islamic and Basic Education Certificate Examinations. While the Basic Islamic exams had around 2,000 candidates, the BECE itself saw 54,000 candidates, bringing the total number of examinees to 56,000 for 2024.

Labaran credited the success to the improved education policies implemented by Governor Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, who has placed a strong emphasis on enhancing the education sector.

“We have observed the examination centers, and it is clear that the process was conducted smoothly,” he said. “The candidates were provided with a conducive environment for their exams.”

He also noted that the Ministry’s recent acquisition of a printing press significantly streamlined the production of examination papers. Unlike previous years, when printing services had to be sourced externally, the new press has resolved past issues and reduced costs.

“The new printing press has made a significant difference,” Labaran added. “It has made the printing process more efficient and cost-effective compared to the previous methods.”
