Senator Shehu Umar Buba, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has been stripped of his traditional title, ‘Majidadin Bauchi’, by the Bauchi Emirate Council.

The decision follows a public spat between the senator and Governor Bala Mohammed.

The senator, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had criticized the governor for his comments on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s handling of the #EndBadGovernance protests. Buba accused Mohammed of mismanaging the state and failing to distribute federal aid.

However, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mukhtar Gidado, denied the allegations, stating that the aid would be distributed as planned.

In a letter dated August 14, 2023, the Emirate Council informed Senator Buba of the withdrawal of his title.

The council cited the senator’s alleged disrespect and humiliation of the governor as reasons for the decision, claiming these actions contravened the emirate’s culture and teachings.
