The Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), despite being in opposition within the state, has expressed strong confidence in securing the majority of seats in the forthcoming local government council elections.
On Saturday, the APC officially launched its statewide campaign after successfully electing candidates for all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
Speaking at the campaign kickoff and the presentation of APC flags to the LGA chairmanship candidates, Senator Shehu Umar Buba, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District, declared, “In an atmosphere of free and fair elections, nothing can stop the APC from winning the local government elections in Bauchi State.”
Senator Buba criticized the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in Bauchi State, attributing the anticipated victory of the APC to the “bad policies” of the PDP. “The people of Bauchi State are being impoverished under the PDP government. The corruption is blatant and widespread, involving everyone,” he stated.
He further emphasized, “Under the PDP government in Bauchi State, nothing is functioning properly only the embezzlement of public funds. This is evident to everyone, and therefore, the people of Bauchi State are very much aware and optimistic. We are going to win this election.”
Senator Buba also suggested that a victory in the local elections would be a precursor to what the APC expects to achieve in the 2027 general elections. “This will give a signal to what will happen in the 2027 general elections. We are ready and prepared for these local government elections, by the grace of God.”
Addressing criticisms of APC policies at the federal level, Buba dismissed them as “misleading, totally untrue, fictitious, and fake.” He defended the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that it is “doing everything possible to make Nigeria better.” He further accused the Bauchi State government of failing to acknowledge or appreciate federal interventions, such as the distribution of rice and fertilizer intended for the state’s populace and farmers.
“The hardship in Bauchi State is caused by the Governor Bala Mohammed-led PDP administration. It is a one-man government, and I repeat, it is a government that is highly corrupt. Look at the ministries—nothing is happening,” he asserted.
Senator Buba urged the people of Bauchi State to turn out in large numbers on August 17th to vote for the APC, promising that the party’s candidates would bring “hope and change” to the state.
Earlier, the State APC Acting Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Hassan Tilde, expressed the party’s readiness to counter any attempts by the PDP to engage in electoral fraud, which he claimed had occurred in past elections since 2019. He called on APC members, especially those assigned to electoral duties, to safeguard the party’s votes against any potential manipulations.
Hon. Tilde highlighted that the APC had fielded candidates for all 20 chairmanship and 323 councillorship seats in the state, expressing confidence that the party would secure all the seats.
