Bayern Munich are nearing an agreement with Burnley for the appointment of Vincent Kompany as their new manager.

After a turbulent search for a head coach, Bayern turned to the 38-year-old Belgian, who has previous experience playing in the Bundesliga during his time at Hamburg.

Having faced rejections from high-profile candidates like Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ralf Rangnick, Bayern sees Kompany as a viable option. Sources indicate that Bayern believes Kompany is interested in joining the club if a deal can be finalized with Burnley, although no agreement has been reached yet.

Additionally, Bayern is open to allowing members of Kompany’s backroom staff, including former Wales forward Craig Bellamy, to join him in Munich.

Kompany, who took charge of Burnley in 2022 after managing Belgian Pro League side Anderlecht, led the team to the Championship title in his first season with an impressive 101 points.

However, Burnley struggled upon their return to the Premier League, finishing 19th and subsequently being relegated back to the Championship for the upcoming season.

Bayern Munich’s decision to bring in Kompany follows their disappointing season, finishing third in the Bundesliga behind Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart.

It was their worst league performance since 2011, and they also ended the season without any silverware after narrowly missing out on a Champions League final spot against Real Madrid.

Earlier this year, Bayern announced that Thomas Tuchel would be leaving his position at the end of the season. Although there were talks to reverse the decision, negotiations ultimately fell through, leading Bayern to pursue Kompany as their next managerial option.

As Kompany is under contract with Burnley until 2028, the English club will be entitled to compensation for his departure
