The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has publicly asserted his allegiance to President Bola Tinubu, claiming that Abia State will be a stronghold for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. Kalu emphasized that as the sixth-highest official in the country, he has a duty to ensure that his state supports the party in power.
In a recent viral video, Kalu confidently stated that Governor Alex Otti and the Labour Party will not maintain control over the state in the upcoming election. He expressed his belief that the APC will reclaim Abia, sharing this sentiment both privately and publicly with Governor Otti.
Kalu remarked, “The people of Abia owe President Tinubu and the APC for the various appointments and developments they have received. Our state needs a connection with the federal government to foster growth.” He conveyed his conviction that Otti understands his obligation to deliver Abia for the APC in 2027.
“This will mark the end of Labour’s governance in Abia. I say this with complete certainty: the next governor will be from the APC. While we may be friends and collaborate, I refuse to hold a prominent position in the country while another party governs my state,” he affirmed.
Kalu expressed his confidence in the APC’s ability to secure victory, stating, “I don’t know the exact way it will unfold, but I believe it will happen. Our efforts are underway, and the President is actively working to support Abia.”
He highlighted the importance of gratitude, declaring, “Abia will repay the President for his initiatives, including the South East Development Commission and the appointments of Abians in government. We cannot allow the APC to bolster our state only for Labour to take credit.”
Kalu emphasized the need for Abia to align with the federal government to enhance its development, stating, “We are ready to work for our state. We can no longer afford to be sidelined from the central government’s influence.”
Despite his strong political stance, Kalu acknowledged Governor Otti’s performance, saying, “He’s a friend and has done well since taking over. I commend him for his efforts. However, it’s crucial for our party to take charge in Abia. I owe it to the President and to the APC, which has given me my current position.”
As of now, attempts to reach key figures for confirmation regarding Kalu’s statements have gone unanswered.
