Manchester City’s star goalkeeper Ederson has suffered a serious injury. The Brazilian shot-stopper will be missing from the team’s upcoming matches. Ederson’s eye socket was ruptured during their recent victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
This means he won’t be able to participate in the Premier League title decider against West Ham United on the final day of the season.
He’ll also miss the highly anticipated FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium a week later.
It’s a major blow for Manchester City, as Ederson has been their first-choice goalkeeper throughout the season.
The injury occurred during the match against Tottenham, where Erling Haaland’s impressive performance helped secure a 2-0 win for The Citizens. Unfortunately, Ederson collided with Spurs defender Cristian Romero, resulting in the injury.
Ederson’s absence will be sorely felt, especially considering the significance of the upcoming matches. His replacement, Stefan Ortega, is set to be in goal for Man City’s final two matches of the season.
However, Ortega performed well when he was brought on during the Tottenham match. He made several impressive saves, including a last-minute one to deny Heung-Min Son.
This is not the first time Ederson has faced injury setbacks this season. He was previously forced off the field during City’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool in March. He was also absent for City’s important title clash against Arsenal, which ended in a goalless draw.
Unfortunately, Ederson’s injury means he won’t be available for the FA Cup final against Manchester United.
Ederson’s absence could provide a glimmer of hope for Arsenal. They’ll be hoping that West Ham United can take points off Manchester City in their final league match. If that happens, it would give Arsenal a chance to secure their first trophy in 21 years.
