Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has decided to suspend his affiliation with the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party (LP).
Okonkwo emphasized his commitment to a new Nigeria, stating that he values principles over compromising integrity for victory.
Previously serving as the spokesperson for the Labour Party Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 election, Okonkwo shared his views on his X account on Tuesday.
He criticized the current leadership under Julius Abure, comparing it to the incompetence and corruption he witnessed in the All Progressives Congress (APC), from which he had earlier resigned.
In his post, Okonkwo strongly condemned the national convention organized by Abure, describing it as plagued with criminality and corruption.
He wrote: “I am suspending my relationship in all ramifications with the purported Abure-led National Working Committee of Labour Party. For me, it’s either a new Nigeria or nothing”.
I prefer to lose doing the right thing to winning doing the wrong thing. Nothing can wash out the criminality, corruption, and incompetence with which the purported National Convention was purportedly organized by Abure.

Interestingly, earlier today, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, might have unutteredly endorsed the National Working Committee of the Labour Party, led by Julius Abure, by appearing at the party’s national secretariat while the National Chairman addressed party members in solidarity.
