Real Madrid has officially announced the signing of Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer after the French forward left Paris Saint-Germain.
The 25-year-old, who holds the record for the most goals scored by a PSG player with 256 goals in 308 appearances, has agreed to a five-year contract at the Bernabeu worth €15m (£12.8m) per year after tax.
As part of the deal, Mbappe will receive a signing-on bonus of just over £85m, which Real Madrid will pay in installments over the duration of his contract.
The transfer comes just two days after Real Madrid secured their 15th Champions League title under the management of Carlo Ancelotti, completing a domestic double after winning LaLiga.
The announcement from Real Madrid simply stated, “Real Madrid CF and Kylian Mbappe have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons.” Mbappe expressed his excitement about the move on social media, posting pictures of himself as a child wearing a Real Madrid kit.
He described it as a dream come true and expressed his eagerness to join the club of his dreams.
Real Madrid has been long-standing admirers of Mbappe and previously attempted to sign him in 2022.
However, he committed to a new two-year deal with PSG at that time. Mbappe declined to activate a one-year extension in his PSG contract, allowing him to move to Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer.
This move comes six years after PSG acquired him from Monaco for a fee of £166m.
Mbappe’s departure from PSG has freed up a significant amount of funds for the French club, at least €220m (£187.5m) in gross costs.
The talented forward’s arrival at Real Madrid marks a major coup for the Spanish giants, solidifying their attacking prowess and adding to their already formidable squad.
