A woman in Calabar has been arrested today for allegedly assaulting a young child who was staying with her. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning in the Ikot Ishie neighborhood.
According to eyewitnesses, neighbors heard the child’s cries and rushed to the scene, where they discovered the woman, identified as Mrs. Kufre, physically assaulting the child.
The child, whose name and age have not been disclosed for privacy reasons, had visible injuries and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Local authorities were alerted and arrived at the scene. Mrs. Kufre was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Calabar Central Police Station.
Preliminary reports suggest that the child had been living with Mrs. Kufre for a short period due to undisclosed family arrangements.
A police spokesperson confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations are ongoing. “This is a grave matter, and we are committed to ensuring justice is served. We urge anyone with additional information to inform us immediately.”
Social welfare services have been notified, and arrangements are being made for the child’s immediate care and future safety.
