Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is a sickness that makes people, especially kids, feel unwell. It is caused by a tiny germ called a virus.

When someone has HFMD, they might have:
– A high fever (feeling very hot).

– Sores or little bumps inside their mouth that can hurt.

– Red spots or bumps on their hands and feet, and sometimes other parts of their body.

How Do You Get It?

– Touching: If you touch something that an sick person has touched.

– Close Contact: If you are too close to someone who is sick.

– Air: If someone with HFMD coughs or sneezes, tiny droplets with germs can spread.

To avoid getting HFMD, you can:

1. Wash Hands: Wash your hands with soap and water, especially before eating and after going to the bathroom.

2. Avoid Sharing: Don’t share toys, food, or drinks with someone who is sick.

3. Clean Up: Make sure to clean toys and surfaces that might be dirty.

There isn’t a special medicine for HFMD.

To feel better, you can:

– Drink lots of fluids.

– Take medicine to ease the pain, if needed (ask a grown-up first).

HFMD usually goes away in a week or so. If you’re feeling sick, tell a grown-up, and they can help you feel better.
