The Conference of Benue Journalists (CBJ) has commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for implementing transformative reforms in Benue State, particularly in the civil service, which have ushered in a new era of accountability and transparency through e-governance systems.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, CBJ Vice-President Mr. Ewache Ajefu expressed excitement over the governor’s efforts and urged him to maintain the momentum. He emphasized that these reforms are critical to addressing long-standing challenges impeding the economic growth and development of the “Food Basket” state.

Positive Impact of Reforms

The group highlighted several key achievements of the Alia administration, including the establishment of the Directorate for Diaspora Linkages and Investments, initiatives to attract investment, and advancements in agricultural policies. These efforts, coupled with the e-governance system, are already yielding results that can significantly enhance the lives of Benue citizens.

CBJ also praised the civil service reforms under Governor Alia, which prioritize merit-based promotions, prompt payment of salaries and arrears, and modern administrative practices that uphold professionalism.

Call for Stakeholder Collaboration

The media group encouraged stakeholders to collaborate with Governor Alia’s administration in tackling corruption and pursuing sustainable development. They also called on citizens to support the implementation of e-governance systems across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to streamline operations and improve service delivery.

“The mandatory e-filing system, along with the establishment of key platforms like the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) and the Benue State Digital Infrastructure Service Management Enforcement Agency (BENDME), form the foundation of the state’s digital transformation agenda,” CBJ noted. These initiatives, they added, have the potential to attract international partnerships and foreign direct investments (FDI).

Approval of New Minimum Wage

The group lauded Governor Alia’s approval of a new minimum wage of N75,000 for state workers, describing it as a pivotal step to uplift employee morale amid economic challenges.

A Call for Sustained Focus

CBJ encouraged Governor Alia to remain steadfast in addressing critical challenges, including security, human capacity development, and infrastructural and economic growth, while fulfilling his campaign promises.

The Conference reaffirmed its support for the administration, emphasizing that the ongoing reforms have set a strong foundation for progress and prosperity in Benue State.
