Chief Bode George, the former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has declared that Nigerians are eager to see the end of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government led by President Bola Tinubu by 2027.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos to celebrate his 79th birthday, George emphasized the need for PDP members and leaders to leverage the upcoming National Convention to revitalize the party.
“As a dedicated member who has lived and breathed the PDP since its inception, I see today as a vital opportunity to discuss our party’s future,” he stated.
While acknowledging that party elders are set to convene on November 28 in Abuja to strategize, George expressed serious concerns about the current state of the PDP, stating, “All is not well; in fact, our party is losing its way.”
He lamented that the internal crises within the PDP have exacerbated the socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria. “I am sounding the alarm that our party is on the brink of a significant crisis if we do not address pressing issues immediately,” he warned.
As a lifelong member of the PDP Board of Trustees, George noted that despite efforts by party leadership to foster inclusivity, certain ‘desperados’ are actively undermining those initiatives.
He urged for a unified PDP, lamenting that the party’s founders would be disheartened by its current state, which he described as “a shadow of its former self due to the self-serving actions of a few.”
George expressed frustration over individuals within the party who are secretly collaborating with the ruling APC as the 2027 elections approach. “These individuals have one foot in the PDP and the other in the APC. Such opportunists are attempting to steer our party.”
He called for an immediate end to this duplicity by patriotic members, stating, “Since the first elective convention in 1999, we have never faced such a dire situation.”
To reclaim Nigeria from the APC’s grip in 2027, George insisted that this must be a central discussion point at the upcoming NEC meeting in Abuja.
He expressed confidence that the PDP is the only party capable of leading Nigeria towards progress and stressed the importance of not allowing disloyal members to exploit the party for personal gain, labeling disloyalty as a serious offense.
“Unity, equity, fairness, and justice must guide our political decisions; otherwise, we risk disaster in 2027,” he warned.
“Winning the presidential election requires us to remain united, and those with divisive agendas must be firmly told that their time is over.”
George urged party members from all regions to use the upcoming PDP’s 99th National Executive Committee meeting as a crucial moment to set aside differences and focus on the future.
He emphasized the need for the PDP to avoid becoming a relic of the past by ensuring a strong and united front as they approach the next general elections in 2027.
