Festus Akande shared some important updates about the Supreme Court. He said that the 2023/2024 legal year ended on Friday, July 19, 2024. After that, the court started its vacation on Monday, July 22, 2024. They will come back for the first term of the 2024/2025 legal year on Monday, September 23, 2024.
Akande also mentioned that there will be a special ceremony to start the new legal year. This event is planned for Monday, September 30, 2024.
The history of Ariwoola’s career is notable. In June 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) after Justice Tanko Muhammad resigned due to health issues. Ariwoola was officially sworn in October 2022 after the Senate confirmed him.
Ariwoola has a long career in the judiciary. He became a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2011. Before that, he served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal from 2005 to 2011, after being promoted from the State High Court of Oyo State.
His academic journey is also impressive. Ariwoola studied law at the University of Ife, which is now called Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. He graduated with a bachelor of laws degree with honors in July 1980. By July 1981, he was called to the Bar and officially enrolled at the Supreme Court of Nigeria as a Solicitor.
Ariwoola will celebrate his 70th birthday on August 22, 2024.
