Recent reports indicate that the Chief of Defence made a significant announcement during a meeting with key stakeholders, including representatives from INEC, the Police, and various security agencies in Benin City.

Musa stated that the individual favored by the President will ultimately be the one chosen by the voters of Edo State. He emphasized, “We aim to make this election the most peaceful one possible, as directed by Mr. President.”

He further clarified, “Mr. President does not have a preferred candidate. His only preference is for the individual the citizens of Edo elect, and it is our duty to ensure that this occurs.”

The Military Chief confirmed that the armed forces have been given a presidential mandate to facilitate a fair, transparent, and credible governorship election in Edo.

During a strategic meeting with military personnel leading up to the election, he reassured voters that the military would operate with professionalism and collaborate with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a violence-free electoral process.

He issued a stern warning that any officer attempting to disrupt the election would face serious repercussions.

Additionally, he cautioned against any individuals carrying weapons to intimidate voters, stating that only designated security agencies would be permitted to operate during the election.

“What I bring from Abuja is a message of peace and a commitment to professionalism on election day,” he asserted. “It is crucial that the election remains free, fair, and credible; any person harboring intentions contrary to this will face consequences.”

Reiterating a point previously made by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), he emphasized that the armed forces would not tolerate any unauthorized individuals wielding firearms. He urged local security groups and vigilantes to refrain from participating in election duties, as they do not belong to the recognized agencies involved in the electoral process.

The Chief of Defence Staff also reminded his deployed personnel of the importance of integrity, vowing that any member who compromises their duties would face disciplinary action.

He called for cooperation among all security agencies, stressing the necessity of creating a safe environment for voters to exercise their rights.

“Our role is to support INEC, which is tasked with conducting the election. The police are the primary agency responsible for security, and our efforts will focus on assisting them to ensure a fair and free election.”

He concluded by reminding everyone that the military has participated in elections multiple times before, indicating that they are well-prepared for the upcoming event.
