In a significant escalation of their demonstrations, protesters have obstructed key roadways in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, calling on President Bola Tinubu to directly address the nation regarding the ongoing hardships faced by citizens.

The turnout for the #EndBadGovernance# protests has surged notably since Thursday, the inaugural day of the movement.Demonstrators have specifically blocked the Old Airport Roundabout, forcing drivers to navigate alternative routes throughout the city.

Solomon Dalung, a former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, implored Tinubu to alleviate the burden on Nigerians by communicating directly with them.

“I had anticipated that the president would step in to alleviate the stress that citizens are enduring, but perhaps due to misguided advice, he underestimated the strength of this demonstration, which has achieved a remarkable 70% participation,” Dalung remarked.

He emphasized that the widespread turnout signals a clear message to the president: “Nigerians are demanding the restoration of the oil subsidy that was removed, as it has led to severe hardship. Furthermore, the increase in electricity tariffs is pushing us deeper into poverty.”

Dalung continued, “People wish to return to their farms and businesses, yet insecurity remains a significant barrier. We need enhanced security measures.”He questioned, “Are these requests too much for the Nigerian government? I believe not.”

Isah Elbuba, the protest organizer in Jos, noted that the demonstrations have remained peaceful, likening the atmosphere to a festival as participants collectively express their grievances.

Elbuba urged President Tinubu to take decisive action during this critical juncture in Nigeria’s history, specifically calling for the reversal of fuel price hikes and the reinstatement of the subsidy.

Sam Odeh, the program manager at the International Organisation for Peace and Social Justice (PSJ), highlighted that despite their hunger, the youth have maintained a peaceful approach, dancing and articulating their demands to the government.
