Citizens United Against Terrorism (CUAT) has called for an in-depth investigation regarding allegations linking Bashir Hadejia, a suspected gunrunner and cross-border criminal, to several government officials. This call for scrutiny comes after Hadejia’s recent arrest, which has raised significant concerns among the public.
According to Reports, Hadejia, who previously served as a special adviser to Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, during his time as Governor of Zamfara State, was apprehended by security forces on Monday. Following the news of his arrest, images and videos surfaced online showing Hadejia with various notable politicians and celebrities, heightening anxieties within the community.
At a press conference held in Abuja, CUAT’s convener, Dr. Emmanuel Agabi, praised the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for the swift action taken in arresting Hadejia. However, he underscored the need for a comprehensive investigation into Hadejia’s associates, particularly those within government circles, and insisted on their prosecution if found complicit.
The group has also urged President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action, calling for the dismissal of any appointees or cabinet members implicated as accomplices by Hadejia.
“We view Bashir Hadejia as merely a front for a larger conspiracy aimed at undermining Nigeria, and it is crucial to identify the individuals orchestrating this agenda,” Dr. Agabi stated.
“He is but a puppet, and we must unveil his puppet masters. Hadejia represents only the visible portion of a deeper issue; if his arrest is comparable to trimming a weed, we must not stop there—removing the roots is essential to eradicate this troubling problem entirely.”
Agabi pointed out the concerning evidence of Hadejia being photographed and recorded with high-ranking officials from both current and past administrations.
The extensive list of public figures he has been able to associate with raises serious questions about the level of protection he might receive and the potential for him to evade accountability. “Nigerians demand justice. Hadejia must be held responsible for his actions against our nation,” the group asserted.
