The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has strongly denounced the alleged threats against the life of Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

In a recent press conference, Nwanyanwu claimed that an associate of former Rivers State Governor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, threatened his life.

The CNPP, through a press release issued in Taraba State by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, James Ezema, emphasized the urgent need for authorities to address the situation proactively.

The conference urged security agencies to ensure Chief Nwanyanwu’s protection, highlighting the incident as a disturbing example of escalating violence and intimidation by politicians aiming to silence opposition.

The CNPP called for a thorough investigation by security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible, warning against further harassment and intimidation of political rivals.

“The use of extra-judicial means to gag opposition voices is a dangerous trend that must be stopped immediately. Nigeria is a democratic nation, and the freedom of expression and association are fundamental rights enshrined in our constitution. Political differences should be resolved through peaceful means, not through violence and intimidation,” the statement read.

Expressing solidarity with Chief Nwanyanwu and the Zenith Labour Party, the CNPP urged all political parties and stakeholders to condemn the act. They stressed the importance of protecting democratic values and opposing any efforts to suppress dissenting voices.

The CNPP also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate measures to ensure the safety and security of all political leaders and citizens.

“We also demand that the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) order a thorough investigation into this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“We therefore call on all relevant security agencies to provide adequate security for the ZLP National Chairman to ensure he is not hurt,” the CNPP concluded.
