The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s democratic stability and called on citizens to collaborate with the Armed Forces and security agencies to ensure lasting peace.

Speaking in Abuja at the 2024 Media Workshop themed “Leveraging Digital/Social Media Influence for Effective Military Operations Within a Joint Environment,” Gen. Oluyede, represented by Maj. Gen. Nosakhare Ugbo, emphasized the Army’s readiness to counter subversive elements and adversaries using lawful means to maintain stability and peace.

He reiterated the Army’s constitutional duty to defend the nation, stressing that protecting lives and property is key to fostering development and progress. Gen. Oluyede also urged law-abiding citizens to actively support efforts for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

Addressing the role of the media, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, highlighted the importance of public support in tackling security challenges. He expressed concerns over misinformation and negative narratives on social media, which he said could undermine military efforts and national security.

Lt. Col. Adamu Ngulde, Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information, emphasized the media’s pivotal role in modern warfare, noting that it significantly influences the success of military operations.

He stressed the need for effective collaboration with the media to foster public trust and support, which are crucial for overcoming operational challenges and ensuring national stability.

The workshop aims to enhance military-media collaboration, navigate the complexities of modern information warfare, and promote narratives that reinforce peace and security across the nation.
