Nigerian comedian and skit maker Gloria Oloruntobi, popularly known as Maraji, has shared details about a traumatic car accident involving her entire family, which led to her social media hiatus since June 2024.
In a recent YouTube video, Maraji opened up about the terrifying experience, revealing how it caused her to reassess the value of life and her work. She recounted that the accident occurred while she, her husband, and their two children were returning from a church service earlier this year.
The incident saw their family vehicle spin multiple times before ending up in a ditch, leaving them all shaken.
“If you have ever been in a car accident, you know it feels like you are in between life and death,” Maraji reflected. “It feels like you could have just died.”
The comedian expressed her deep fear during the ordeal, particularly because her entire family was with her in the car.
“What made it even scarier for me was the fact that everybody was in the car—my husband, myself, and my kids,” she shared. “We were coming back from church. It was just so scary and made me kind of think I could have just died.”
Known for her humorous skits on Instagram, Maraji explained that the experience made her reflect on her life and priorities. She questioned the significance of her hard work, noting, “If I had died, all the work I have done would just go. What is the point of working so hard if you will not rest?”
The comedian added that the accident made her appreciate life more and emphasized the importance of rest. Describing the chaotic scene, she likened it to a moment straight out of a Nigerian movie.
