The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, has made a startling revelation, claiming that certain members of the university’s staff may be acting as informants to the bandits responsible for the recent wave of attacks. These attacks have targeted students, staff, and their families, causing widespread insecurity and fear.
Following the tragic death of a university staff member in a recent attack, Bichi’s colleagues organized a peaceful protest to voice their concerns about the escalating insecurity.
During a press briefing in Katsina, Bichi disclosed that the suspected staff members’ contacts had been shared with a security agency for thorough investigation.
Expressing deep concern, the vice-chancellor emphasized the school management’s commitment to preventing future bandit attacks. However, despite their efforts, the situation has continued to deteriorate.
Bichi stated, “The issue of informants is extremely troubling. As a result, we conducted an investigation into those we suspect of divulging information about their colleagues and students.
We have identified them and provided their contact details to a security agency for further inquiry. Regrettably, we have not received any updates from the authorities.”
It is worth noting that these suspects are members of our own staff. We have compelling reasons to believe that they may be involved in aiding and abetting the bandits as informants.”
In response to these allegations, ASP Abubarkar Sadia-Aliyu, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, expressed unawareness of the issue. He urged the public to assist them by providing any information that could help bring an end to the prevailing security challenges.
As the university community grapples with the unsettling revelation of potential informants within their ranks, the need for swift and decisive action to address the security threats becomes increasingly urgent.
It is crucial for all relevant authorities to collaborate effectively, investigate the alleged informants, and implement robust measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the university staff, students, and their families.
The collective effort of the public and law enforcement agencies is crucial in bringing an end to these distressing incidents and restoring a sense of security to the affected community.
