Corporal Buba Adamu has been detained by the Cross River police command for failing to report to duty after being transferred in 2015. Despite his transfer to Kaduna State, Adamu has continued to receive his salary for nearly nine years without ever reporting to his assigned post.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, explained the situation: “The said officer was transferred from Cross River to Kaduna State in 2015, but no one knew he didn’t report to his new station. There are allegations that he has been carrying out criminal activities around Bakoko Nassarawa area of Calabar. All this will be investigated. The image of the force is important to us. We shall not allow anyone to spoil our image.”

Further investigations revealed that Adamu had been operating around Bakoko Nassarawa, a Hausa/Fulani settlement in Calabar Municipality, where he allegedly engaged in various criminal activities. Residents in the area had reportedly observed his presence and activities, raising concerns about his involvement in local crimes.

Ugbo emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a thorough investigation. “We are committed to upholding the integrity of the police force. It is essential that we investigate these allegations thoroughly to ensure that justice is served and that the reputation of the police force is maintained,” she said.

The discovery of Adamu’s activities and his failure to report to duty highlights significant gaps in the monitoring and management of police personnel. It raises questions about the oversight mechanisms in place to ensure that officers comply with their assignments and responsibilities.

As the investigation proceeds, the Cross River police command aims to uncover the full extent of Adamu’s activities and address any systemic issues that allowed such a situation to persist for nearly a decade. The findings will be crucial in implementing measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future and to restore public confidence in the police force.

In the meantime, Adamu remains in custody as the investigation continues. The authorities are determined to ensure that any criminal activities he may have been involved in are fully exposed and that appropriate actions are taken to address the misconduct. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and vigilance in maintaining the integrity of law enforcement agencies.
