A couple, Mr. Okoye Kingsley and his wife, Mrs. Chidinma Okoye, residents of Ozubulu community in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, have been apprehended for alleged involvement in attempted kidnapping.

The arrest was confirmed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement released in Awka on Friday.

SP Ikenga disclosed that the couple, aged 36 and 27, were detained by a joint security team in the area.

The statement read:
“The Anambra State Police Command is aware of and investigating a related trending voice note concerning a security report on how a victim narrowly escaped abduction by an alleged security operative.

“Acting on technology-driven intelligence, the joint security force comprising the Police and Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) arrested a couple, Mr. Okoye Kingsley and Mrs. Chidinma Okoye, in the early hours of today, November 29, 2024, at Ozubulu. Phones and SIM cards used for criminal activities were recovered from them.

“The suspects specialize in sending threatening messages to individuals, demanding ransom with threats of abduction or murder. During interrogation, they confessed to the crime and admitted to destroying some SIM cards used in previous criminal acts.”

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the Anti-Kidnapping/Robbery Squad for thorough investigation. The couple will be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries.

In a related development, the Command has launched an investigation into a recent security report about a victim who escaped abduction allegedly orchestrated by a security operative. The Command is employing advanced intelligence measures to identify and apprehend the suspects to prevent future occurrences.
