After Justice Iyang Ekwo of the Abuja Federal High Court invalidated all procedures leading to Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s nomination as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming Edo State governorship election on September 21st, the All Progressives Congress (APC) extended an invitation to Ighodalo. They urged him to join forces with their candidate, Sen Monday Okpebholo, in a bid to reclaim the state and set it on a new course toward prosperity.
In a statement released in Benin by Comrade Orobosa Omo-Ojo, JP, Director of the APC Campaign Council’s Publicity Committee, the party highlighted the nullification of the February 22nd, 2024, PDP governorship primary by the Federal High Court in Abuja under Justice Ekwo’s jurisdiction. This decision, according to the APC, was welcomed by the people of Edo as a relief from what they perceived as imposition and governance driven by self-interest.
The APC, positioning itself as a party of progress, emphasized the urgent need to address the interests of the Edo people. They called upon Asue Ighodalo to collaborate with Senator Monday Okpebholo, focusing on issues such as ensuring food security, affordable healthcare, and fostering economic growth in the state.
However, responding swiftly to these developments, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Edo State PDP chapter, asserted that Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s candidacy remained firmly intact within the party. He dismissed rumors circulating about the nullification of Ighodalo’s candidature, attributing them to apprehensions over Ighodalo’s rising popularity.
In a press statement, Dr. Aziegbemi reassured loyal supporters of the PDP to remain calm and steadfast, emphasizing that the Federal High Court’s ruling in Abuja did not affect Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s status as the party’s flag bearer for the 2024 elections.
